Engin Arik

Prof. Engin Arik was my supervisor for my MS degree, and I have known her since 1992 or so, therefore, I knew her quite well from numerous points of view: as a boss, as a colleague...

She believed in science. She believed in particle physics and performed it with enthusiasm. She fought with great devotion to promote particle physics in Turkey; and Turkey in the global particle physics community.

As a woman in science, what impressed me about her is that she raised two children (as far as i know the first one while being a graduate student which she was telling us stories about), and she succeeded in both.

Engin Abat was a student I met when I started working on ATLAS myself and we worked with him together (and in one morning, until 4am!) for the documentary that the Turkish National TV was preparing. He impressed me with his enthusiasm. He was really a bright and dynamic student and he seemed to have the skills necessary for particle physics, including a collaborative approach.
