Engin Arik

I had the privilege to get to know Engin Arik while working on the organization of the Balkans Physics Conferences where she was on the organizing committee. From the first day I met her, I was struck by her cheerfulness and her enthusiasm.

She was literally a radiating woman, both on a personal and professional level. Her dynamism, her availability and her charisma always made her popular with students and collaborators alike.

One of my most vivid memories of Engin: at the end of a conference in Trieste, during the conference dinner, she was the first one to get up and to sing while dancing, taking along all the participants. She will always be for me this “Uskudar’s daughter”, which she so nicely sang that night, so beautiful and so happy… With her enthusiasm and her dynamism, she was able to help many students to come to physics. She was for all of them a support and a precious help which will be greatly missed…

To meet her when she was visiting CERN was always a sheer delight and it is terribly difficult to know that her smile will no longer be seen here. We already miss her terribly!

Thank you Engin to have been the person you were and to have given so much all around you: I am very proud to have met you.
