Message of condolence from the ATLAS Collaboration

Professor Engin Arik has pioneered the Turkish involvement in ATLAS. She joined the ATLAS Collaboration very early on from its beginning 15 years ago. With her enthusiasm for physics she has motivated several generations of young physicists working hard and successfully on the project. Engin Abat and Berkol Dogan were among these young, bright students.

We will remember Engin as a wonderful lady, always positive, enthusiastic and go getter, with no project or task being too much for her. But, a professor’s reputation depends on her/his students. For Engin one REAL example was Berkol, our Berkol. What a wonderful, polite, highly appreciated and talented PhD-Student, absolutely sound and 100% reliable.

The tragic loss of our colleagues last Friday has deeply shaken all of us in the TRT Collaboration. The sad news had been met with enormous dismay. I spoke with many people who had know Engin Arik, Engin Abat or Berkol Dogan, and everyone was deeply moved and spoke with great respect about their remembrances.
