Kyle Cranmer has been awarded a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).

Kyle has worked on ATLAS as a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as a Goldhaber Fellow at Brookhaven National Laboratory, and, most recently, as an Assistant Professor at New York University.

As described at the United States Department of Energy web page:

"The PECASE Awards are intended to recognize some of the finest scientists and engineers who, while early in their research careers, show exceptional potential for leadership at the frontiers of scientific knowledge during the twenty-first century.

“The PECASE Award is the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on outstanding scientists and engineers beginning their independent careers."

Kyle's work on ATLAS focuses on tools and strategies for data analysis, triggering, and searches for the Higgs.

At the awards ceremony, which took place on 1 November in Washington, D.C., Kyle met various government officials involved in science policy. There is a photograph of the award recipients with President George W. Bush here. That's Kyle, somewhat to President Bush's left.

This has been an exciting time for Kyle who in the last few months, in addition to winning this prestigious award, has joined the NYU Physics Department, sold his house, moved to New York City, and become a father. Alan Mincer
