Higgs film flyer

The film “Higgs: into the heart of imagination” features physicists working at CERN, including some ATLAS members. It is a documentary about the hunt for the Higgs boson, one of the motivations that prompted the construction of the LHC. The film features Peter Higgs who talks about his theory, which was first published in 1964 by him and independently by Robert Brout and François Englert.

This documentary about the curiosity, passion and imaginative powers of science was filmed over four years, starting with the construction of the LHC. It follows ATLAS member Stan Bentvelsen, head of the research group at NIKHEF, as he prepares his team for the start of the LHC, as well as for the competition to be the first to find the Higgs.

The Dutch filmmakers, Hannie van den Bergh and Jan van den Berg had created theatre productions and multimedia projects under the title "The Imagination of Invisible Dimension" in the past five years, before making “Higgs”, their first film. It was shown at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam in November 2009.

Everybody is invited to attend this showing (in English) on Thursday April 29th in the Main Auditorium at 19:00.  The projection will be followed by a short question and answer session with the filmmakers. For a sneak preview, check out the website.
